THE HUNTED...

Bob Chapin, the acclaimed Visual FX artist and stuntman (who has worked on such films as Inception, Shutter Island, Watchmen, Iron Man and Cloverfield) is based in Los Angeles and for the last decade has also produced a fun, ironic web series called The Hunted (http://www.hunted.tv/).

In early 2011, a long-proposed feature film based on the series concept (an amateur team hunting vampires in Los Angeles, filmed with a POV camera) was put into motion, requiring some extra funding to make the project a reality. Using the Kickstarter website, Bob attempted to attract $20K worth of investment to make the movie.

John created the promotional Hunted advert which appeared online and in print throughout May 2011.

Bob successfully acheiving the full funding in June 2011 and filming should begin later this year.

BRITFILMS...

During 2010, John was hired to produce material for UK film and DVD distributor BritFilms, creating new sleeves and promotional material from scratch or finishing existing designs.

The job required an extensive, ongoing schedule of work to be completed on tight deadlines. In cases where a fresh design was needed, John created a selection of options for the client to evaluate and to see which direction the material should go. Existing photographs and logos were supplied and then evolved into a wider design through PhotoShop CS5. The projects had to reflect not only the sensibilities of client and designer, but also the intended demographic at which the product was ultimately aimed.

Titles worked on include: thriller CUT, the award-winning CRYING WITH LAUGHTER and a vampire outing called TEMPTATION.

HIGHLANDER WORLDWIDE...

John has been involved with the Highlander WorldWide organistion since being invited to be an official guest at their 2003 event in Australia.

For nearly a decade he has also subsequently handled all the event branding and promotion that the official organisation creates - including posters, brochures, adverts, t-shirts and other assorted merchandise. The latest event promotion was for the 'Sanctuary' event at the end of April 2009 (http://www.hlww9.com/) and he continues to design their regular DVD releases and help plan future events...

The DVD sleeves themselves had to reflect not only the organisation's remit but also the tone of the events they concerned. It was necessary to create a separate 'brand' for each, so that the collected sets would look better together. In the case of the concert of award-winning blues singer and musician Jim Byrnes, it was also necessary to create a look which would tie into the HLWW event but also appeal to his fans outside his parallel acting career.

In many cases exclusive photographs were taken and used to create composite images within the design and wording was approved by client and subject.

MILLARWORLD...

In February 2010, award-winning comic-book writer Mark Millar (creator of the award-winning title, The Ultimates and whose work on Wanted, Kick-Ass has been adapted for the big screen) ran a contest to design the new logo for his official website - Millarworld - and John's design was chosen as the final winner. The logo now features on every page at http://www.millarworld.tv/

The remit was to include some of Mark's creator-owned characters, to have a symbol or logo that could be used at various sizes and make it sufficently different from what had come before on the site.

Such elements were researched, chosen for relevance and style and then combined and subsequently placed around a 'world' image. (The design includes images from Mark's work in comics and films). Mark then requested some very minor changes. The whole process took less than a week and has now been in place for over a year.

As well as editorial duties on national magazine IMPACT, John also stepped in on several occasions to provide extensive layouts and page-planning on a design level.

Having been trained in graphic design and advertising and combining that with an often extensive knowledge of the subject of the text at hand, John is in a unique position to be oversee a complete article's presentation - ensuring that strong imagery is both eye-catching and relevant to the subjects at hand.

This has involved both provided reference artwork and John's own photography of actors, writers and directors interviewed over the last ten years.
